A Sadhak and a disciple need a Guru quite as a human needs food. Guru is the power which is present in the heart, mind and body of the disciple and helps him carry out all his tasks. The image of a Guru ever remains in the eyes of the disciple and he worships the master as a deity and protector.

Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! There is no other deity as powerful and capable as the Guru. The Guru element is present in the whole universe and each particle of nature. But till a disciple does not form a permanent link with it as elucidated by the Upanishad verse Poornnamadah Poornnamidam, he has to keep a picture of the Guru before himself in order to make his spiritual progress possible.

And the picture should be large, divine and overflowing with blessings and affection of the Master. It should find place in the worship place so that daily you could bathe it, offer incense, lamp and sweets, and speak out your wishes, prayers to Him.
A beautiful, divine picture always proves to be a source of inspiration, besides making the family atmosphere congenial and constantly filling one with a feeling that revered Gurudev is ever showering His grace on me and keeping a watchful eye on all my actions.
Such a feeling shall keep you away from sinful action and motivate you towards good action. The atmosphere of the family, the society in which you live is very poisonous and harmful to spiritual inclinations. In such circumstances one needs a picture of the Guru which could keep giving a boost to one’s spiritual endeavours and help one in the awakening of the Kundalini.
The ancient texts state that a Guru is not a physical being. Rather he is a power that gives spiritual inspiration and encouragement. When the sun of fortune of disciples rises the Guru power appears in human form on earth to free them of the effect of past Karmas and to remove the darkness of ignorance from their minds.
It is very difficult for a disciple or a human being to realise and comprehend the Guru in His divine form. Some very conscious disciples can but not the majority of them. This is why the Guru manifests in a simple form on the earth for the good and welfare of the mankind.
This omnipotent and omnipresent power that thus manifests, can at any point of time in the life of a disciple appear to lead him on the right path. This is why wise seekers keep searching for the right Guru.
Just as the mother takes care of her child by constantly looking after it, similarly the Guru ever keeps a watch on the disciple and does not allow him to go wayward.
To keep this feeling ever alive that one is always being protected and taken care of, one needs a picture in one’s room or worship place. The worship place should especially be graced by a divine picture of the Master.
